The QLD WRX Club has organised with Safe Drive Training to run a weekend away at Armidale over the last weekend in March – the 26th to the 28th

The NSW WRX Club is also coming along to join in the fun

We anticipate most participants being able to leave our respective home bases around lunchtime on the Friday, travelling to Pembroke Holiday Village in Armidale to stay on Friday night.

Early Saturday we will head out to the huge and very well equipped Armidale Training facility where breakfast will be served and all participants will be given a series of exercises to do including slalom, garaging, swerve and evade, power on understeer/lift off oversteer and ABS. The basic idea of the weekend is to pass on the main performance car control skills. These exercises will also cater for your partners who don't normally drive the vehicles, as well as some time allowed for children down to 14 years of age.

Saturday will be devoted to this training and includes lunch as well. The facility is a concrete slab of approx 300m square with a lecture building and surface water controls, so the majority of driving will be in slippery conditions allowing true ABS testing and closing apexes etc.

We will join together on Saturday night for a slap up BBQ dinner at our accommodation then off to bed, up early Sunday, pack up your gear and back out to the facility for a wet pad motorkhana competition – starting after breakfast.

This is not going to be easily won by the experts, as we will run it to CAMS tests and rules, including points deductions for wrong way and cone strikes. It should be loads of fun on the slippery wet pad. The more powerful the vehicle the harder it is to control in these types of events so anyone would be in with a win.

We will be finished by midday and present some trophies including some comical ones so that we keep the weekend fun feeling alive. Then off back to our homes.

Anyone interested should have a look at this presentation and then contact the WRX Club of Queensland.
